Dozens of cobweb-covered model planes dangle from the kitchen ceiling. There are bowling balls and army helmets and croquet mallets... hacksaws and hat blocks and boat propellers along the stairs...That's just some of the stuff that fills the funky north Berkeley home of artist Gerhard Nicholson, an amiable American eccentric whose life and work merged long ago. It's a happy clutter of objects and images that reflect and feed Nicholson's free-roaming imagination, a singular work of assemblage.
- Jesse Hamlin, San Francisco Chronicle
